On a quiet street in Kathmandu, three early risers share a breakfast steeped in camaraderie and laughter. The man on the left sips his drink with the deliberate grace of a connoisseur, as though appraising its aroma. Beside him, the man in the middle bursts into laughter, reacting to a shared joke, while the gentleman on the right clutches a piece of bread, caught mid-joke—likely one aimed at me.
In stark contrast to this lighthearted moment, a homeless woman sits silently on the shop steps, surrounded by her belongings. It’s the remnants of her life and likely her shelter for the night. Her presence somberly reminds us of a harsher reality and foreshadows the inevitable moment when someone will move her along to clear the way for the day’s trade. Here, two worlds coexist, separated only by laughter and circumstance.
