Aluminium Prints

When it comes to displaying photographic artwork and landscapes on a wall nothing goes past a super glossy Aluminium print.

Perhaps I am biased but I believe it’s the best way to display an image, why? here are some of the reasons:

  • The image is infused directly into specially coated aluminium creating brilliant colour vibrancy and resolution
  • Contemporary looking, not requiring a matt, frame or glass
  • Lightweight and easy to hang
  • Scratch resistant can be cleaned with a cloth and any all-purpose household cleaner
  • Waterproof, can be mounted in humid environments and wet areas such as bathrooms
  • Excellent archival quality permanence rating of more than 60 years. This rating is more than three times better than silver-halide photo papers.

Aluminium prints are available with or without a hanger. When ordered with a hanger your print is ready to hang with nothing to prepare, the hardest part is deciding where to hang it. All aluminium prints ordered with hangers come complete with the wall attachment to securely hang your print.

Aluminium prints can also be ordered without a hanger where you may wish to matt and frame your print in the more traditional way except you don’t really need glass since the aluminium print is glossy and durable. Price does not include frame or matt.

Canvas Prints

The canvas used to for the canvas prints is made from 65% polyester and 35% cotton. The canvas used is high quality producing prints with excellent colour brilliance and image definition.

Once printed and dried the canvas is sprayed with a protective clear coat which further increases its water resistance and protects from fading, dirt and fingerprints. This protective coating also provides a barrier against airborne contamination, ozone and handling damage.

Stretched or Unstretched

Canvas images can be ordered as stretched or unstretched.  Stretched canvas prints have been stretched onto a wooden frame and ready to hang on your wall.

Many customers choose to purchase the Canvas prints as unstretched to save on freight costs.  They can then have the Canvas print stretched at their local framing shop.

Unstretched canvas prints are carefully and safely packed in sturdy protective package rolled up and shipped in a transport cylinder.

Paper based prints

Two types of paper prints are available which also require matt board, frame and glass.

Smooth Pearl Photo paper

As the name suggests this photo paper has a pearl finish which not only looks great but also aids in eliminating glare and fingerprints. This is a resin core paper with a weight of 310gsm

The smooth Pearl photo paper has superb clarity, high sharpness and excellent gamut. Together with a professional printer images printed on this paper are as good as it gets.

Art paper

Rag Photographique art paper is used for these prints. It is made of 100% museum grade cotton with a unique extra smooth surface in a matt finish.

This Art paper has excellent archival properties as well as the highest achievable Dmax currently on the market. In layman’s terms, this art paper is great, it will last the longest out of all the papers and produce the best possible image. Where art paper really excels is in the dark or shadow areas of an image. It has the ability to show definition and detail in these areas where most other papers fail.

Matt Board and Frame

Matt boards are only available for the Photo and Art Paper prints in the two smallest sizes, see list below. Frames are only available for the Photo Papers. Aluminium and canvas prints do not require matt boards or frames. Customers that purchase the Photo and Art paper prints would have their local framing shop do the framing.

The matt boards available for the two smallest print sizes are available in 4 different styles:

PRINTING

A bit of background on what we strive for with each print we sell.

Nowadays all photographic printing is carried out using digital printing, long gone are the days where prints were produced in the darkroom using messy and toxic chemicals. Anybody that has a printer can print photos with a $100 printer but the professional prints such as the ones we have on offer are the result of a long chain of processes and materials that need to be 100% to produce a piece of art that will hang on your walls for many years to come.

The process starts from the photographer, the camera and lens. From the number of pixels of the camera to the quality of the lens even to whether the photographer used a tripod. If the image is still captured on film then the negative needs to be scanned to a digital file, the quality of the scanner is critical.

The digital image is then loaded onto the computer where it is prepared for printing. The most critical factor is that the colour, contrast and detail viewed on the computer screen is replicated on the final print, the artist or the photographer needs to be confident that the image will be the same every time it is printed, even 10 years down the track. For this to occur the monitor is calibrated to a standard and profile as the person doing the printing. An image that is meant to be viewed on a mobile device cannot be used for printing, it requires a different profile and the same is true with images optimised for printing will also look different on mobile devices.

Finally when the image is printed it should look identical to what the the photographer viewed on his monitor.  Even though all these steps are carried out the final result still depends on the proficiency and experience of the person doing the printing.

The entire process depends on all these factors to be right to get a quality print, if any of these is out could mean the print is not the best.  We strive for this perfection.
