Title: Radiant Himalayan Smiles
Seated on a bench outside Swayambhunath, four elderly Tibetan women bask in the warmth of a sunny afternoon in Kathmandu. Their smiles radiate wisdom, while their eyes reflect happiness, contentment, and resilience. Dressed in beautifully vibrant clothing, their striped aprons (pangden) proudly symbolise their Tibetan heritage. Despite their years, a youthful mischief dances in their expressions.
Noticing my camera, two of them lift their hands in greeting—a simple yet heartfelt gesture of kindness and openness. Surrounding them, prayer flags flutter in the breeze, and the distant hum of Buddhist chants fills the air. Their laughter flows easily as they exchange stories, wooden prayer beads draped around their necks. Though time has etched lines upon their faces, their spirits remain lively. As the city bustles around them, they sit together in quiet companionship, embodying the grace, strength, and warmth of their culture.
