The journey of this remarkable river begins its life in the heart of Triglav National Park, nestled within the pristine wilderness of the northern Julian Alps. Originating from snowmelt and the movement of ancient glaciers, the river flows gracefully over 137 kilometers, carving its path through breathtaking landscapes. As it winds its way through valleys, past dense forests, and over rugged terrain, the river’s stunning emerald hue is a testament to the natural forces shaping it.
This mesmerizing color is a result of the glacial grind—millions of years of ice movement, scraping and grinding against rock formations, releasing minerals and sediment that give the water its distinctive, iridescent green shade. Ultimately, the river culminates its journey at the Adriatic Sea in Italy, where its pristine waters merge with the vast Mediterranean, offering a stunning finale to its natural adventure.
